In the 2024-25 school year, Lee County Primary School had 139 African American students enrolled, a 13.1% drop from the prior year, based on information from the Georgia Department of Education.

Overall, the school’s enrollment totaled 636 students in 2024-25. African American students represented 22% of those enrolled, ranking as the second-largest demographic in the school.

Lee County Primary School is part of the Lee County School District, which has its central office located in Leesburg.

Within the district’s eight schools, Lee County High School reported the largest number of African American students in 2024-25, totaling 378.

More than 1.7 million students attended Georgia’s public schools, as referenced in the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Enrollment was most concentrated in elementary grades at 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle schools with 388,733 (22.7%), and high schools with 539,092 (31.4%).

Chronic absenteeism continues to be a key issue in Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students absent for 10% or more days in 2024, per the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE started a statewide campaign featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, public outreach efforts, and focused assistance for districts in need to improve daily school attendance.

In 2025, Georgia lawmakers updated school attendance laws to prohibit expulsions solely for absenteeism. The law introduces additional reporting rules and connects with programs helping students earn diplomas through alternative options.

As of 2026, Georgia’s typical student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, an improvement over the national ratio of 15:1.
