ALBANY TECHNICAL COLLEGE: National Arbor Day

ALBANY TECHNICAL COLLEGE: National Arbor Day
0Comments

Albany Technical College issued the following announcement on Apr. 28.

The Environmental Horticulture Program at Albany Technical College celebrates National Arbor Day in which they encourage individuals and groups to plant trees.

National Arbor Day is always celebrated on the last Friday in April, but many states observe Arbor Day on different dates throughout the year based on best tree planting times in their area. This year, 2022, the last Friday in April is the 29th.

In addition to enjoying the beauty of a tree, trees give off oxygen that we need to breathe. Trees reduce the amount of storm water runoff, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding. Many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat. Trees provide food, protection, and homes for many birds and mammals.

The College has been named Tree Campus USA since 2008 for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship.
