City of Newton issued the following announcement on Mar. 8.

Newton County was awarded a perfect score of 100 out of 100 by the Environmental Protection Division on its landfill during a recent inspection.

Every evaluation criterion by the EPD was either met or not applicable for the landfill and its newly renovated cell during the September inspection.

“We are very pleased to report that the grade was a perfect 100 from our landfill inspection conducted by the State Environmental Protection Division,” said Kevin Walter, Newton County Solid Waste Manager. â€śThis is an accomplishment we strive for and, quite frankly, our residents and landfill users deserve. Our high grades are a credit to Newton County’s Solid Waste employees and the Solid Waste Authority for giving us the tools necessary to reach such high standards.”
