CITY OF NEWTON: Newton County votes to hire Sims as Interim County Manager

City of Newton issued the following announcement on Feb. 21. 

The Newton County Board of Commissioners voted to hire Jarvis Sims as Newton County’s Interim County Manager during a Special Called Meeting Monday, Feb. 21.

The vote paved the way for a contract to be offered to Sims to lead the day-to-day operations in Newton County.

Sims previously served as Deputy Administrator of the city of Augusta. Sims, who earned his Master’s at Mercer University and Bachelor’s at Georgia State was one of two finalists for the position, along with Lucinda Babers.

Commissioners Stan Edwards, Demond Mason, J.C. Henderson and Ronnie Cowan voted in favor with Commissioners Alana Sanders abstaining.

Newton County began its search for an Interim County Manager in November.
