FOIA Request to Lee County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Albany Standard have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Lee County Election Department. The request was made with the aim of obtaining information about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.

The details requested include each candidate’s first, middle, and last name, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and their party affiliation. In addition to these basic details about each candidate’s candidacy, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to public records is essential for us at Albany Standard to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
