FOIA Request to Tift County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024. The Albany Standard, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., for information regarding the methods used by the department to count votes.

The request specifically asks for details about whether the vote counting is done manually or through some other method. If manual counting is employed, the Albany Standard has also requested an estimate of the number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we at Albany Standard believe access to such records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have therefore requested a fee waiver as a media professional for this information.

We are awaiting response from the Tift County Election Department and will continue our efforts in ensuring transparency in our local government’s operations.
