Phoebe Putney Health System has issued a warning about fraudulent phone calls targeting members of the community. The health system reports that individuals are posing as Phoebe representatives in an attempt to collect personal or medical information, using tactics such as fake test result notifications or promises of gift card giveaways.
Jonathan McGuire, Chief Compliance & Privacy Officer for Phoebe Putney Health System, stated, “Phoebe will never call to ask for sensitive information – such as social security numbers, financial details or medical diagnoses – for any sort of promotion or giveaway. Even if you receive a call that appears to come from a Phoebe number, we urge you not to share any personal or medical information unless you initiated the call to a verified Phoebe number.”
The health system advises anyone who receives a suspicious call to hang up and verify by calling Phoebe directly at 229-312-1000. They also recommend reporting any suspicious activity to local law enforcement or the Federal Trade Commission at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov.
McGuire added, “Protecting the privacy and trust of our patients remains one of Phoebe’s highest priorities. We don’t want to cause undue alarm, but we do want to inform patients and community members and advise them on how to respond to potential scam calls so they don’t become a victim.”
Phoebe Putney Health System is monitoring these incidents and will provide updates if necessary.
