Angelo F. Taylor was born on December 29, 1978, in Albany, Georgia. His family moved to Saudi Arabia when he was young, but he returned to the U.S. for his education. Taylor went to the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he studied and competed in track. In 1998, he won the NCAA title in the 400-meter hurdles and finished second in 1997. He also won a silver medal at the U.S. National Championships that year. Taylor debuted in the 1999 World Championships, earning a third-place finish with the U.S. 4×400 meter relay team.
Taylor won his first Olympic gold medal in 2000 in the 400-meter hurdles. He won a second gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He also took part in the 4×400 meter relay, earning a gold in 2008 and a silver in 2012. Over his career, he became known for his strong performances, winning multiple world titles in the relay and consistently competing at a high level.
