Newton County announced Shena Applewhaite as the new Director of Development Services during its Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Applewhaite served as the County’s Interim Director of Development Services since April. Prior to taking on the director’s role, Applewhaite was the County Planner. She has been with Newton County for eight years.

The Department of Development Services provides services for unincorporated Newton County and consists of the following divisions: building permits, business/alcohol licenses, code enforcement, planning and development and zoning.

“I am very pleased that Shena accepted the role as our Development Services Director,” Interim County Manager Jarvis Sims said. “I know she will do a wonderful job leading this most important department for our citizens and employees.”
