COUNTY OF WORTH: 5-Year Tax Digest and Notice of Property Tax Increase

Tax

County of Worth issued the following announcement on July 9.

The Worth County Board of Commissioners has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 1.85 percent.

When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia Law requires that a “rollback millage rate” be computed that will produce the same revenue on the current year’s new digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.  When the tax digest increases, additional revenues for county government will be produced.  State law requires that the additional tax revenue be classified as a tax increase.  However, those additional revenues are not an actual tax increase but are reflective of the growth in Worth County.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 12.56 mills, an increase of 0.23 mills.  Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 12.33 mills.  The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $0.93 and the proposed increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $150,000 is approximately $1.39.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held in the Commission Boardroom located on the 3rd floor of the Worth County Courthouse at 201 N. Main Street in Sylvester, Georgia on July 26, 2021 at 9:00 a.m., July 26, 2021 at 6:00 p.m., and on August 3, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
