County of Dougherty issued the following announcement on Aug. 18.
Recently, the National Association of Counties (NACo) President, Larry Johnson, appointed Commissioner Anthony Jones, District 6 Commissioner, Dougherty County Board of Commissioners, to the NACo Membership Standing Committee.
A native of Alabama and graduate of Tuskegee University, Jones has been a resident of Dougherty County for 34 years. He is a retiree of the University of Georgia’s Dougherty County Extension Service, where he served as the 4-H Youth Development Coordinator and County Extension Coordinator for 24 years.
“I am honored to get the call from the National President of NACo selecting me to serve,” said Jones. “I am committed to service and plan to put my best foot forward.”
Currently, Jones serves on the Board of Directors for the Dougherty County Library and is an Executive Board Member for the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission Board. He is a certified member of the Association of County Commissioners (ACCG), a member of the National Association of Counties (NACo), as well as numerous organizations throughout the state of Georgia.
An active member of Christian Life Missionary Baptist Church where he serves in the parking ministry, Public Relations ministry and other areas as needed on request of the Pastor, Jones is married to Debra Bell Jones and they have three children and one grandchild. He enjoys collecting antique cars, helping others, watching NASCAR Racing, and educating others about agriculture.
