County of Dougherty issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
Effective immediately and until further notice, the Dougherty County Police Department (DCPD) Animal Control Unit will only be equipped to pick up dangerous dogs. This afternoon, the Albany Humane Society (AHS) notified DCPD of the need to close due COVID-19 outbreaks with several essential employees, with others having to undergo quarantine policy due to exposure.
Unlike last year when COVID-19 peaked, neighboring Lee County Humane Society will not be able to assist due to the same COVID-19 issues as the AHS. As a result, DCPD’s Animal Control cannot pick up additional animals, unless they pose a danger or threat. For additional information, contact DCPD at 229.430.6600.
