CITY OF NEWTON: CDC updates recommendations for COVID quarantine period

City of Newton issued the following announcement on Dec. 29. 

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released updates on recommended quarantine times in regards to COVID-19 recently.

If you test positive for COVID-19, the CDC recommends everyone stay home and isolate for five days, less than the previous recommended 10 days., regardless of vaccination status. If you have no symptoms after the five-day period you can leave isolation and continue to wear a mask around others for an additional five days.

If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19 and have been boosted or completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna within the last six months, you can wear a mask around others for 10 days.

If you were exposed to someone with COVID-10 and have not been vaccinated, or boosted, received Pfizer or Moderna more than 6 months ago or Johnson and Johnson more than two months ago, it is recommended to stay home for five days and then continue to wear a mask around others for an additional five days.
