City of Newton issued the following announcement on Feb. 4.
The Newton County Board of Commissioners approved the Fiscal Year 2023 Budget Workshop calendar during its Regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 1
The workshops held at the end of March in the Newton County Historic Courthouse will consist of public meetings between the Board of Commissioners (BOC) and all participants of Newton County’s budget, including citizens.
The BOC will hear from Newton County departments and enterprise funds on Tuesday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Board will hear constitutional officers, elected officials and other governing boards on Wednesday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appropriation requests will be heard by the BOC on Thursday, March 31 from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The final budget workshop will be for the citizens will be Tuesday, April 5 from 6 p.m. 7 p.m.
The BOC will then hold discussions about the budget items on Tuesday, April 19 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The budget workshops are an integral part of the proposed budget, which is tentatively scheduled to be presented to the BOC during a Special Called Meeting Tuesday, May 24 at 6 p.m. in the Newton County Historic Courthouse. Public Hearings on the budget are proposed to be held on Tuesday, May 31 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, June 7 at 6 p.m.
