County of Newton issued the following announcement on Apr. 7.
Newton County will resurface and restripe its tennis and basketball courts this spring.
The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a contract with A Better Court LLC to begin the project during its Regular Meeting Tuesday, April 5. The cost of $84,900 will be paid for from 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax park and recreation upgrade funds.
With the exception of the basketball court at Trailblazer Park just being restriped, all courts maintained by the Newton County Recreation Department will be resurfaced and restriped.
The following courts will receive the renovations:
Beaver Park, Hwy 213 Mansfield
City Pond Park, 13501 City Pond Road Covington
Denny Dobbs Park, 6252 Hwy 212 North, Covington
Mary Louise Fowler Park, 11545 Covington Bypass Road, Covington
Trailblazer Park 3112 Clark Street, Covington
The tennis courts at Beaver Park will also be striped for pickleball.
“We will be resurfacing all the tennis and basketball courts throughout the county,” said Dwayne Mask, Parks and Recreation Director. “They will come in and fill all the cracks, reseal the courts and repaint and restripe them.”
