County of Newton issued the following announcement on June 20.
The Newton County Board of Commissioners will host two upcoming meetings regarding the 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
The first is a Special Called Meeting with the Newton County SPLOST Committee to hear proposed projects on June 22 at 6 p.m.
The SPLOST Committee has been hearing from Newton County officials and department heads, area non-profits and other stakeholders on requested projects. The Committee will report their proposed list to the Board of Commissioners in the Historic Courthouse. The Board of Commissioners will then select which projects will be a part of the 2023 SPLOST referendum.
The upcoming proposed SPLOST will be a one percent sales tax to go toward infrastructure projects and debt divided among Newton County and each municipality within the county.
The Board of Commissioners will meet with representatives from the municipalities to discuss distribution of the upcoming SPLOST during a Special Called Meeting Monday, June 27, at 6 p.m.
Both meetings will take place in the Newton County Historic Courthouse.
