Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), co-chair of the Congressional Job Corps Caucus, welcomed U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Marty Walsh to Albany, Georgia, where they toured the Turner Job Corps Center and discussed the value of the Job Corps program in strengthening America’s economy and preparing participants for successful careers.
“We are all very proud of the exceptional work that the Turner Job Corps Center has done here in Albany over many years,” said Congressman Bishop. “I believe that we have some of the best students and staff here, and I am so happy that Secretary Walsh and his team from the U.S. Department of Labor can see, first-hand, how it is serving the community.”
“The Turner Job Corps Center is a crucial partner in the Department of Labor’s renewed effort to fulfill the promise of Job Corps through a wide range of on-the-job training that will help support southwest Georgia families and communities,” said Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh. “I look forward to continuing to work with Representative Bishop to revitalize and invest in Job Corps to ensure students continue to take advantage of the training and educational opportunities available, while creating more pathways to the middle class.”
Mr. Nate Cooper, Turner Job Corps Center Director shared “We are creating a positive experience that prepares non-traditional students career-readiness. We are so grateful to have Congressman Bishop, Secretary Walsh, and their respective staff visiting our campus today. It has been noted that today is the first time a Labor Secretary has visited the Turner Job Corps Center in Albany, Georgia. Here at the Center, We are demonstrating capability of finding, managing, and utilizing the resources needed to maintain employment while satisfying physical and emotional needs that lead students to a productive life as independent, thriving adults.”

The Turner Job Corps Center is part of Job Corps, the largest nationwide residential career-training program in the United States. Since 1964, the Job Corps has helped eligible young people, ages 16 through 24, to complete their high school education, train them for meaningful careers, and assist them with gaining employment.
The visit by Secretary Walsh builds on the Department of Labor’s Good Jobs Initiative, which is a coordinated effort by the Biden-Harris administration to improve the quality of jobs in the U.S. with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s implementation.
