Congressman Bishop Announces Over $2 Million in for Health Care in Chattahoochee Valley Region

Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA02) announced that the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is providing $2,173,928 in funding to Valley Healthcare System, Inc. to build and expand health care centers in Middle Georgia.

“These federal funds will help our rural and underserved communities provide better health care for Georgia’s families. When people have access to health care closer to home, it is easier for them to seek preventative care and stick to treatments that will improve their wellbeing. In times of emergency, distance to care can be a matter of life and death,” said Congressman Bishop. “As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for much-needed resources like this so that more families in Middle and Southwest Georgia have access to health care close to home.”

The Valley Healthcare System, based in Columbus, Fortson, and Talbotton, Georgia, is a healthcare organization that provides medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and vision services to residents of the Chattahoochee Valley region.

The funding from HHS is a part of a continuing federal investment in Valley Healthcare System as it works to provide comprehensive, primary health care for Georgia’s families. The centers are funded by the Public Health Service Act, which helps improve access to health care across the country.
