Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) was pleased to announce that the Middle Georgia Regional Airport will receive $1,011,094 from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The award will be used to fund a taxiway rehabilitation project and is part of larger repairs and expansion efforts at the airport.

“I was proud to vote for the bipartisan infrastructure law last Congress because it was a historic investment in our country’s infrastructure by which Americans travel and do business. Today, we are once again seeing that investment come home to Middle Georgia,” said Congressman Bishop. “The improvements made possible by these funds will help the Middle Georgia Regional Airport handle more travelers and shipping. It will also allow the airport to better support nearby Hartsfield Airport and bring more airline industry business to Macon.”

“The support of the Federal Government is key to continuing major improvements at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport, helping current tenants expand, attracting new businesses, and growing the economic impact on the region,” said Macon-Bibb County Aviation Director Douglas Faour.

This grant is being funded as part of the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program through the U.S. Department of Transportation and the FAA. This grant funds 50% of a two-phase project. These funds were made possible by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the bipartisan infrastructure law, which Congress approved in November 2021 with Congressman Bishop’s support.

This project rehabilitates 1,500 feet of the existing Taxiway C pavement to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris. It is part of a larger effort at Middle Georgia Regional Airport to improve and expand facilities. Last month, the airport broke ground on a runway expansion project which has been several years in the making and was also made possible, in part, with the support of federal funds.
