l has finalized the search for City Manager to candidate Emily Beeman, current Interim City Manager for the City of Tifton. The Council unanimously voted Monday night at the regularly scheduled council meeting. Beeman will be the first female City Manager for the City of Tifton.
Beeman was appointed to Interim City Manager in October 2022 due to the previous City Manager accepting a role with the Georgia Municipal Association. Prior to that appointment, Beeman held the position of Deputy City Manager. She has served in the public sector with the City of Tifton since November 2018, initially in the role of Human Resources Director.
Beeman has an Associate’s Degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Georgia Southwestern State University. Her career accomplishments with the City show her love for Tifton and dedication to the organization. Beeman is active in the Georgia Municipal Association, Georgia Local Government Personnel Association and the Georgia City County Management Association. In 2021, she received a state award for Professional Achievement for accomplishments in local government, implementing changes to the municipality for the betterment of the community and all city personnel.
The Council reviewed more than 29 applications and interviewed four individuals. The candidates were selected following a recruitment search and a candidate review process conducted by The Mercer Group, a consulting company based in Athens, Georgia. The Mercer Group came highly recommended through the Georgia Municipal Association and the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.
“The City of Tifton contracted with The Mercer Group several months ago once we received the resignation notice of City Manager, Pete Pyrzenski. We conducted a nationwide search for the best candidate for City Manager of this great community. The Council was seeking someone with enthusiasm and vision, not for what we are today, but what our potential is for the future. Mrs. Beeman’s vision for the community is what really sold us. She has a passion and heart for the organization and has proven herself to be dependable” said Mayor Julie Smith.
Beeman will officially take the role of City Manager on March 6, 2023
