Born in Albany, Georgia on November 23, 1946.

Bobby Lee Rush was born on November 23, 1946, in Albany, Georgia. He later moved to Chicago with his family as part of the Great Migration. Rush became active in the civil rights movement, co-founding the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party in 1968. He served as its defense minister and later its acting chairman. Rush entered politics and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992, where he served for over 30 years. He was known for his advocacy on issues such as healthcare, economic justice, and gun control. Rush was a key figure in the Congressional Black Caucus and is remembered for his efforts in advancing civil rights and representing Chicago’s South Side. His early life in Albany, Georgia, influenced his later activism and political career.
