SUMTER COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL: Sumter County High School’s Student Government Association (SGA) held its inaugural Thanksgiving food drive during the month of November

Food

Sumter County High School issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.

Sumter County High School’s Student Government Association (SGA) held its inaugural Thanksgiving food drive during the month of November. Hundreds of canned goods and other non-perishable items were collected and given to “Harvest of Hope Food Pantry,” a local non-profit which serves the community by offering free meals to those in need.

“Our students were eager to serve and assist in this food drive,” said Leslie Long, SCHS teacher and SGA advisor. “This was our first community service project since moving into the new building. These students definitely learned a valuable lesson, which is, any first step toward leadership begins with service.”

SGA President Ian Roberts said the food drive was a huge success: “The drive lasted two weeks. We set up stations around the school where anyone could drop off items at their convenience. We collected hundreds of items during that time, which we were able to donate to Harvest of Hope. This is our way of saying thanks to the community who gave so much to us during the pandemic.”

Mr. Jerry Dill of Harvest of Hope visited the school and collected the items to transport them to the non-profit.
