Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College issued the following announcement on May 16.
Charley Lollis from Perry recently received the top award presented to a bachelor’s degree graduate from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College when she was named the recipient of the second ever David and Kim Bridges Award from the ABAC Alumni Association.
Lollis, who earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Communication at the recent spring commencement ceremony, received a plaque and a check for $500 from the ABAC Alumni Association, which sponsors the award and conducts the interviews which lead to the selection of the winner. The recipient of the award must participate in the commencement ceremony.
ABAC President David Bridges, the namesake for the award along with his wife, Kim, said the award is presented in recognition of scholarship, leadership, and citizenship to a graduate receiving a four-year degree from ABAC. Bridges is retiring from ABAC this summer.
During her career at ABAC, Lollis served as President of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, Vice President of the ABAC Ambassadors, and Vice President of the Sigma Alpha Sorority.
Lollis also served on several search committees for ABAC faculty and administrative positions and was on the Donaldson Teaching Award selection committee. She was also a member of the Stallion Society.
As a part of her Senior Capstone Project, Lollis traveled to the United Kingdom to take photos and video for an exhibit and documentary film which premiered at ABAC’s Georgia Museum of Agriculture on May 11.
Lollis has also filled communication internships with the Sunbelt Ag Expo, Georgia’s Rural Center, and the Georgia Pecan Growers Association. She has written and produced stories for the Stallion newspaper and for Stallion TV.
A Montgomery Presidential Scholar, she has made the Dean’s List, President’s List, and compiled a grade point average of 3.88 on a 4.00 scale.
One reference said, “she is very driven and focused on her future. As a student, she took advantage of every opportunity, got outside her comfort zone, and networked with faculty, staff, and industry people. She explored and found her passion.”
Another faculty member said, “I believe she made this college a better place, and I can’t wait to see how she will change the world for the better.”
Summer term classes begin at ABAC on May 31. Fall term classes begin on Aug. 15.
