Enrollment in Dougherty County School District increased over previous year

The only school district in Dougherty County had rising enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 12,675 students in the halls of Dougherty County School District, 0.5% more than the year before.

Enrollment in Dougherty County bucked the state's trend compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were male, and 49% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black, representing 90% of the Dougherty County School District's total enrollment.

Dougherty County School District has a main office in Albany and is the only school district within Dougherty County.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:15, which is better than the national average of 1:16. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
